The New Rare Pet

Long and random spawn timers don't seem like the best option for making that ultra-rare pet that everyone wants but almost no one has. What if, instead, we made them difficult to tame. Most people want these pets because almost no one else has them and its a challenge to get them. But what's the challenge in waiting there forever? Is it difficult? Is it hard to wait for an eternity on a mob that may or may not spawn? No. Is it monotanous and mind-numbingly boring? Yes. There's no challenge here to make me feel rewarded when I finally tame the pet. Am I happy I have the pet? Yes, because it looks awesome. But is there another way?
Blizzard has already taken a few steps in a different direction on various rare pets. King Krush was on a ridiculous freaking timer in a myriad of different spots, just like Aotona and Loque'nahak. But he was also Difficult to Tame even when you were Lucky enough to find him. Hunters called in their friends to help with the tame, using fear wards and haste buffs to speed up the cast and avoid interruptions. What if they applied this kind of tactic to rare pets instead? I hunted Nuramoc for over 3 weeks and never even saw him (Sometimes I would roam back and forth for over 12 hours in the netherstorm). I'd prefer it if he was just ridiculously hard to get and not see. Aww look, there's Madexx, too bad I don't know how to get him. Let's work on strategy and see if there's a way to tame him and not accidently kill him.
Design the rare pets more like a raid boss encounter. If you don't do certain things at the right time, you can't tame them. You enter the magic puzzle sequence and he just sits there for the tame cast, or they have to get to a certain low health point and then tame in instant-cast, or you have to go through a series of trials and tribulations to get that pet to spawn but doing it correctly guarantees they are there every time (Like echeyakee or sian-rotam, but more difficult - people who have tamed raid bosses: Chromaggus, MC). You could give them unique boss-like move mechanics that the pet doesn't retain after taming. What do you think?
Sounds cool but Blizzard would NEVER change the mechanics or spawn timer of an existing rare. People who camped for weeks would feel outraged and cheated.
Sounds like pokemon.
Make rare pets like the old elite demons we had to solo to get our level 60 epic bow.

Survival or MM for raids?

My dps output seems to be much higher, however looking on sites, I'm seeing survival doing the most dps in raids? How is this possible and is survival still really best for raids? Thanks.

P.S

On a dummy, I'll range from 9k-13k dps in marksman.
Survival, I go from 7.5k-8.7k
It depends on the fight. On fights like Atramedes and Conclave I go MM and fights like Maloriak or Magmaw that have AoE I go SV for the AoE damage you can do with multishot and explosive traps.
Me and a guildie were assuming it was something like that. So basically just switch inbetween bosses during raids.
i'm having the same issue, but SV is giving more damage. i played with the dummies, and SV gave me about 12k damage, and MM gave me about 9-10. this is even more frustrating, since before the patch, as SV, i was doing 15k+ on the dummies, and 19-20k in raids. now, i am pulling about 14-15k ion raids. it's driving me nuts, and i honestly cant see how MM is supposed to be better, and if it is, what i did wrong on the dummies.
Wow. Yeah MM I pull much more dps, seems we're having the opposite problem. lol. Wish I could do more dps as survival. I may be doing rotations wrong. MM, with the gear I have now, I can do as much if not more dmg than you. But with survival, you're doing WAY more dmg.

((You're opening up with 2x aimed shot when using MM right?))
I'm having the same problem deciding on which spec to go for raids. I always keep my offspec as BM for pvp so i'd love to be able to keep it that way and only use one for raiding. But then i'm torn. I'll be taking both to raid tomorrow but any opinions on which to choose?
Don't compare the specs on dummies. They stay at full health so you always benefit from Careful Aim. Marksmanship gains more from this since you will be using Aimed Shot in your rotation and crits do extra damage from Piercing Shots.

Advice please

Ok so I am reading up on everything I can for hunters and am still somehow missing out on some decent DPS. On average I can do about 13k on bosses, and I need to get that up more. I believe I am gemmed correctly, have reforged properly, and my shot rotation is:

Hunters Mark ->serpent sting -> Black Arrow -> explosive shot - > Cobra shot
Of course i have enough haste to pull off three Cobras before explosive is ready again and with LnL i use exp, cobra, exp, cobra, exp.

Aside from that am I doing anything wrong? Is there something else I should be doing or do I have any stats wrong? Appreciate any help I can get at this point.
I haven't played a whole lot since 4.0.6, so this may be a little out of date, but here's a few things I noticed:

1) I've always put ES as higher priority than BA
2) Your hit is a little low - try for 8% as a missed ES / BA will be a big dps hit.. this should be your #1 reforging priority (still gem agi)
3) You haste is a little high - any haste beyond about 6% (757 rating) is mostly wasted (unless you have 4p T11)
4) Pay attention to cool downs, I like to stack them at the beginning of the fight during the careful aim phase
5) Other than the above, 13k doesn't sound too bad for survival in your gear, but i'd guess you could pull about 15k in a raid (a made up number... just a guess)

Also, keep in mind that MM is doing better than SV right now.

Hope this helps.

Meh, unless your guild has specific guidelines of "each person must pull X dps" I find very little wrong with 13k. It's enough to beat BH timer and several other timers. Healer mana should last about as long if well geared and aware.

Raids are all about mana timers and enrage timers. Beat both of them, and you're set.

spirit bond not working

spirit bond is not working as far as i can see its like i put 2 points into this for nothing no +2% hp per 10 sec
recount says nothing and my combat logs say nothing
dont think the +10% heals works as well anyone else notice this
it works. its passive heals so you won't notice it, and the 10% bonus heals work as well.

test heals with a partner with and without pet up over 1-2 minutes to verify
Alternatively, stay in combat at less than full hp with a mob that cannot hit you (critter, freezing trapped mob, etc), and watch your hp rise.

Ghostcrawler(the pet, not the dev)

What are the conditions to even be able to see this guy? Do I have to have finished Vashj'ir?
i got him without a single quest done in the zone. just flew over there and dove in.

Is the autoshot macro fixed yet?

http://www.warcrafthuntersunion.com/2010/11/cast-auto-shot-bug/

"Zeherah has uncovered a bug with the “Cast !Auto Shot” macro command, and asked me to spread the word. If you’re using this commend in your macros, you should probably take it out until we can verify that the bug has been fixed.

This command is supposed to start your auto-shot if auto-shot is not already active.

Currently if you are using this command, it is actually slowing your rate of auto-shot fire by about 0.1 seconds per shot in observed tests. That means for every ten shots fired, you’re effectively losing an auto-shot, or 10% of you auto-shot dps.

We don’t yet know exactly what this command is doing to slow the auto-attack, and we have not had any testing to see if this problem also exists with melee attacks (while I don’t care about melee attacks, if the problem exists for all those other classes it’ll probably be a higher priority to get it fixed). This bug exists both on live and on the beta.

For the time being just remove this line from your macros to get your correct auto-shot attack times."

Also what is the proper way to set it up with...lets say cobra shot?
help! <3
:(
I haven't tested to see if they fixed it, but you can just use /startattack in your macros instead for now- my tests before showed it wasn't having the same problem.

You would just put /startattack in your macro before your /cast shotname and that'd cause your autoshot to start firing if it wasn't active when you used it.

Thanks so much! You are the best.

I noticed how much dps I was looking on quick target switching fights when cobra was my next shot. A whole cast of no auto attack stinks!
Does anyone know how to write the whole macro with this and the show tool-tip thing.

I have

#showtooltip
/startattack
/cast cobrashot

Is this right?

MM haste goal?

where do i want to aim for haste?
I like your gear.
